Hi! My name is Cullen O'Connor, and I am a certified speech and language pathologist in Northwest Ohio. I founded Vocalis Speech Therapy in 2023 after years of working in various settings helping children and adults with communication needs.
A Calling to Serve
My interest in speech therapy was sparked when at 20 years old, I suffered a hemorrhagic stroke causing aphasia and apraxia, drastically limiting my communication ability. As I was improving in the rehabilitation hospital, I decided I wanted to use my experience to help improve the lives of others with communication needs. From that point on, my goals and passions were always to make that dream a reality.
I switched my major from Business to Communication Disorders and Sciences at the University of Toledo and graduated from the program with summa cum laude honors. I pursued my graduate degree at Bowling Green State University, gaining a comprehensive understanding of the field and developing a strong foundation. This is where I recognized my interest in working with both adults and children.
Since graduating from BGSU, I have accumulated experience across the realm of speech-language pathology. I have worked in schools, skilled nursing facilities, acute care hospitals, an in-patient rehab unit, a pediatric outpatient clinic, a pediatric outpatient/ABA clinic, and with home health companies.
During this time, I have continued to grow my knowledge and skills. I found a passion for working with children and adults with complex communication needs. This includes children who are non-verbal / non-speaking, children with motor-speech deficits, adults with Aphasia and/or Apraxia, and both adults and children who use or may benefit from Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC).
My purpose in founding Vocalis Speech Therapy is to help those with complex communication needs and to help guide children through their speech and language development. Every man, woman, and child deserves to have a voice.
